BRIEF HISTORY OF PRERONA PRATIBANDHI NGO
Prerona Pratibandhi NGO was founded in 2001 in Dibrugarh, Assam, by Smti. Jyotsna Sonowal (Ex-MLA, Sadiya) after a tragic incident inspired her to take action for the rights and dignity of differently-abled individuals. Along with a group of enthusiastic, educated, and differently-abled individuals, she established the organization to eliminate societal stigma and empower people with disabilities to contribute to society.
Formally registered in 2008 under the Societies Registration Act, the NGO began with self-help groups in 2002, supported by local development agencies. Key milestones include the establishment of Prerona Offset Printers in 2004, fully operated by differently-abled individuals, and Challenger Handicrafts, offering vocational training for hearing-impaired individuals.
In 2016, the NGO took over Prerona Children Home, a Child Care Institute providing education, care, and rehabilitation to orphaned and neglected children. The organization now embarks on its ambitious Prerona Senior Citizen Home project under the theme "Koka aru Naati," aiming to unite generations and foster mutual care and support.
Prerona Pratibandhi NGO continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of marginalized individuals.

Let’s join hands and make a difference, together.
